Areca Backup is a free and open source data backup app and backup tool developed by Oliver Petrucci for Windows, it's advanced, customizable and powerful.

Areca Backup allows you to select a set of files / directories to back-up, choose where and how (as a simple file copy, as a zip archive, etc) they will be stored, and configure post-backup actions (like sending backup reports by email or launching custom shell scripts).
Areca Backup is a simple and open source file backup tool that's been designed in Java. It supports data compression & encryption, incremental backup, file history explorer and many other features.
Areca Backup also includes a transaction mechanism which guarantees your backups' integrity. As an additional security measure, Areca Backup also features a backup simulation module.

Compatibility and License
Areca Backup has been released under the open source GPL license on Windows from backup software. The license provides the options to freely download, install, run and share this program without any restrictions. The source code for Areca Backup should be freely available and modifications are certainly permitted as well as the option to inspect the software.
What version of Windows can Areca Backup run on?
Areca Backup can be used on a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10. Previous versions of the OS shouldn't be a problem with Windows 8 and Windows 7 having been tested. It comes in both 32-bit and 64-bit downloads.
